Internal Scholarships at SEPH

Hello my SEPH friends! Here are a few tips to get you started with funding your program.

  • Did you know that uOttawa is hiring for teaching assistants for the winter term? Apply now!

  • The time to get applications into the job bank for the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) is now! Applying earlier increases your odds of getting hired for the winter semester as a student. Read our blog about FSWEP next.

  • There are major scholarships you NEED to apply to coming up with deadlines in December: OGS, CIHR, and more! Check it out under “external awards and financial support”. We will provide more details about tips to applying to these scholarships in the next blog!


There are a bunch of internal scholarships available on the Student Portal (uOttawa login required. Prospective students can browse the full list of scholarships and bursaries here). Deadlines are scholarship-specific, so make sure you apply before it’s too late! Fortunately, we’ve handpicked some scholarships to get you started!

  1. RCNair Scholarship (712220102379) - To provide financial assistance to deserving graduate students in the Epidemiology Program at the Faculty of Medicine who demonstrate a financial need

  2. Multiple Financial Need Bursaries (99932)- Combine several Scholarships based on financial need that are specifically intended to the ‘Multiple Financial Need Bursaries’. This bursary will make the application process faster and easier for the students.

  3. Graduate Students' Association Emergency Financial Aid Fund (GSAÉD) (712200301734) - The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to graduate students registered at the University of Ottawa.

  4. Roger Guindon Scholarship Fund (762200301074)- Provide financial support in recognition of the good academic standing of students registered at the University of Ottawa and who are involved in one or more activities on campus or in their community.

  5. Students Federation of the University of Ottawa Educational Foundation Scholarship Fund for Ontario Students (OSOTF) (762220101249) - To contribute to the financial support of students whose ability to study at the University of Ottawa is impeded or compromised

  6. David M. Shillito Scholarship in Ophthalmology Research (712220102332) - To provide financial support to a graduate student who has been confirmed in the Faculty of Medicine’s MSc or PhD program at the University of Ottawa and training at the Department of Ophthalmology or its Vision Research Program.

  7. EntourAGE Scholarship (712240302804) - Financially support students who are conducting research on quality of life and aging at the LIFE Research Institute, at the University of Ottawa.

  8. Hans K. Uhthoff, MD FRCSC Graduate Fellowship (712240301930) - To support and encourage graduate orthopaedic research at the Master’s and PhD levels.

  9. Sceptre Investment Counsel Limited Scholarship for Excellence(OSOTF) (762220100967) - To provide financial assistance to students whose education would otherwise be compromised

  10. Saroj and Kishori Lal Family Scholarship (712240302631) - The purpose of this fund is to support students conducting research relating to memory cognition, including dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

  11. Risk Management Bursary (762200302437) - To provide financial assistance to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and shown the greatest integration of risk management principles into their activities.

  12. Carole Workman Leadership Scholarship (OTSS) (762220102317) - To provide financial assistance to students in need.

  13. Faculty of Medicine Scholarship for Graduate Research (712200305266) - Award a scholarship to a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine who has distinguished themselves through their research conducted as part of their program of study.

  14. Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa Student Award Program (762200300786) - To support a student who demonstrates financial need and academic merit. Recipients will be selected from each faculty based on student enrollment.

  15. Langevin-Desrochers Doctoral Bursary at the Faculty of Medicine (712200305092) - Award a bursary to a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine who needs financial assistance to continue their studies and research.

  16. Maria and Arthur Roy Scholarship Fund (OTSS) (762220102517)- To provide financial assistance to a graduate or postdoctoral student registered at the University of Ottawa.

  17. James M. Inglis Fellowship for Mental Health Studies (OTSS) (712220102292) - The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to University of Ottawa students who are enrolled in a doctoral program in the field of brain-related illnesses (brain and mind) at the Faculty of Medicine, and who qualify under the terms established by the Ontario Trust for Student Support

  18. Judith R. Raymond Scholarship in Cancer Research (712240300928) - To promote research on cancer through a scholarship for a graduate student at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa. This scholarship will give preference to research in types of cancer affecting mostly women.
